Apply Now! 2025/26 Artist In Residence Program
Folk On The Rocks is proud to re-launch its Artist Mentor in Residence Program, designed to foster collaboration between established Canadian musicians and emerging Yellowknife-based artists. This unique initiative helps overcome location-based barriers, supports professional development, and creates meaningful, inclusive community arts experiences.
How it works
The program will pair one visiting artist (Mentor) with two local emerging artists (Mentees) for a series of mentorship, collaboration, and performance opportunities.
Residency Phase (November 2025):
The Mentor travels to Yellowknife for a month-long stay. Each mentee works one-on-one with the Mentor for two weeks, culminating in free, all-ages community performances.Festival Phase (July 2026):
The Mentor returns for Folk On The Rocks to reunite and rehearse with both mentees. Together, they present collaborative sets as part of the festival program. The Mentor also leads a Professional Development Activity (e.g., workshop or panel) for artists and industry.
Eligibility for Visiting Mentors
Open to Canadian musicians with a mid-level career profile.
Applicants must show mentorship readiness and a willingness to share industry knowledge.
Priority will be given to artists who are Indigenous, racialized, disabled, and/or from other marginalized communities.
