April 24, 2018 - The Folk On The Rocks Society would like to announce the departure of President Ryan Fequet, and Director Andrew Livingstone, effective April 23, 2018. Ashley Makohoniuk is the current Vice President and will take on the role of President until the Society’s Annual General Meeting later this year, as per article 20.4 of the Society’s bylaws.
Ryan joined the board in 2013 and has served as President during his entire tenure. He was also the chair of the Site Management and Human Resource Committees. Under his leadership, he has helped establish strong governance, finance and board policies that have done a great deal to bring stability and strength to the organizational structure. Ryan will use his newly-found free time to focus on his family, work and other volunteer commitments. “Serving a Society loved so much by the community has been a privilege. I have been fortunate to work with, and learn from, an amazing team of directors, staff, and volunteers over the years who have taught me about dedication to something larger than yourself. I am a better person because of the opportunity I was given to serve FOTR, and I am grateful to have left a small mark on its legacy.”
Andrew joined the board in 2015, and has served as chair of the Selections Committee, and as a member of the Finance and Human Resources Committees. During his time on the Selections Committee, Andrew helped develop a stronger system for how the festival secures artists and approaches the creation of the festival line-up. Andrew is leaving the organization after nearly three years due to a new job opportunity in Edmonton, AB. “I am confident that the Folk On The Rocks Society will continue to deliver on its vision and mission as an organization. The board has a lot of talent and experience and will continue to ensure stability of the organization in all areas. I wish the Society and everyone involved all the best. I will truly miss being a part of the greatest festival in Canada.”
Ashley has been on the board of directors since 2012 and in the position Vice-President for the last 5 years. Her experience, leadership, and expertise with the organization will help maintain stability during this period of transition. “The board of directors are very sad to see Ryan and Andrew leave. Ryan joined at a very integral time and has been instrumental in turning Folk into a well-oiled machine. Andrew’s insight, music knowledge and passion will certainly be missed.”
The board has appointed Christina Monroe to serve in the role of Vice President until the Society’s Annual General Meeting later this year, as per articles 26.2 and 26.3 of the Society’s bylaws.
