Amos the Kid
The release of Amos the Kid’s debut LP, Enough as it Was, followed the remarkable rise of Winnipeg’s Amos Nadlersmith from reclusive songwriter to hometown hero. Only a few years have passed since the not-quite-country musician was playing the odd diamond-in-the-rough set in a half-empty bar; now, he’s a stop-him-in-the-street performer playing for sold out crowds of hundreds and who released one of the “greatest Canadian albums you might have missed in 2023" (Exclaim!). Enough as it Was was re-released in Europe by Grand Hotel Van Cleef on January 10, 2025, selling out its run only two weeks later, on January 24. A second re-pressing was released on March 28, 2025.
Enough as it Was showcases Nadlersmith’s growth, blending indie rock with grungier elements while maintaining his rootsy charm. The title track offers a unique take on country music, featuring a mix of traditional instrumentation and innovative percussive samples, culminating in an explosive finale. Nadlersmith credits his success to the supportive community around him: “Amos the Kid is less singular than the name suggests.”
